FurKey is a successor to the Furry Code created in 2019.

The creator describes the code as being French-centric, using the French Republican Calendar and French abbreviations as a rejection of English hegemony:

Et comme je déteste l’hégémonie anglaise, les abréviations sont en français.

Its v1 creation date of 28 Floréal 227 is equivalent to 2019-05-17, and its v2 creation date of 20 Floréal 228 is equivalent to 2020-05-08.
