Gendercode is a short code intended to show the user’s gender identity, “loosely based on version 3 of the Genderbread person”. Though the original Gendercode 3 (G3) spec isn’t archived or described, based on Reddit comments it seems to have followed the Genderbread Person v3’s pattern with 12 digits (first six as “me”, second six as “attracted to”):
- Gender Identity (Man-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Identity (Woman-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Expression (Masculine),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Expression (Feminine),
0
-9
/X
- Biological Sex (Male-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Biological Sex (Female-ness),
0
-9
/X
In response to Reddit feedback, version G4 incorporated non-binary sliders from Gender Unicorn, switching the “Biological Sex” sections to “Physical Characteristics”:
- Gender Identity (Man-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Identity (Woman-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Identity (Other-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Expression (Masculine),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Expression (Feminine),
0
-9
/X
- Gender Identity (Other),
0
-9
/X
- Physical Characteristics (Male-ness),
0
-9
/X
- Physical Characteristics (Female-ness),
0
-9
/X
The G3 version of the code was described and linked on Reddit in February 2016, then updated to G4 five days later. Each thread contains some examples of the code at the time.
The page was implemented as an encoder at https://gendercode.netlify.com/, which now resolves to https://gendercode.netlify.app/.
